There are two separate judgment days mentioned in the Bible. One is what is referred to as the Judgment Seat of Christ and is found in 2 Corinthians 5:10, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” This is a judgment that Christians will experience after the Rapture of the Church. It is a time of reckoning for what we have done with our lives after we were saved. You will be rewarded based on what you did with the gifts and talents that God gave you to work with. This motivated the Apostles to work hard for the Lord, knowing that they would be rewarded based on their earthly actions. It should also motivate us to work diligently for the Lord as we watch for His return.
The second judgment is from our text in Revelation 20:10-15. As you will see today, this is a judgment for the unsaved. It is their day in court, if you will, and the outcome of their judgement is somewhat predetermined. They will be judged based on their works and, of course, their works will not justify their rebellion or refusal to accept the payment that was made for their sin. Due to their refusing Jesus, the only way to heaven, they will be cast into the lake of fire where they will spend eternity in torment. This is a real judgment with real eternal consequences, and this ought to motivate us to tell the whole world that Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life,” John 14:6. If you have not accepted Christ, please do so before it is too late.
