Pastor's Article 09-07-25

One of the greatest blessings of my life is that of being a parent, and a greater blessing than being a parent is the privilege of being called a grandparent. So let me start by saying to all the grandparents, Happy Grandparents Day.

Our kids have been such a blessing to Tammy and me. We have loved watching them grow up and mature into dynamic Christians who love the Lord and invest their lives into making an impact for the Kingdom of God. Both my girls and their husbands are doing a fantastic job raising their kids to know their purpose and place in this world and the one to come.

Early on in my walk with Christ, God showed me through His word that my job as a parent was to teach my kids how to live their lives as a living sacrifice to God. It has never been my purpose in life to raise kids that were financial power houses, nor famous in the eyes of this world. My purpose as a parent has always been to teach my kids to love Jesus, to serve God by serving others, and to do all that they could to win people to Christ. For me, staying focused on the purpose that God gave me as a parent helped me teach and lead in the direction of laying up eternal treasures. I feel that so many parents get sidetracked in their parenting, putting emphasis on the wrong things, and therefore raise kids to do what they emphasized, only to realize later that they placed priority on things of little or no heavenly importance.

So today, I want to challenge all of you as parents to ask yourselves, what am I teaching my kids by the way I am living and leading them? If church attendance is of little or no importance, how can learning to walk with Christ be important to your children? If everything is more important than Christ and His Church, how can you teach your child to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness? Don’t just listen to what you say, but look at what your life example says. Your kids need to know what their priority should be based on your leadership and example. Lead well and parent with purpose.
