Have you ever been in a place that made you feel uncomfortable, like you didn’t belong or were in the wrong crowd? I have. Last year Tammy and I went to the rodeo, and I think she and I were the only ones in the whole building that were not drinking. While I loved the rodeo, it was not worth the atmosphere that I had to sit in to watch it. It seems to me that this world is becoming more and more like this. People now use foul language in common conversation and almost every restaurant that sells a good steak has a bar in the middle of it. This world is a place that has a way of making Christians feel out of place. The reason this is happening is because this world is not our home. Our citizenship is in heaven and, when Christ is in you, the world can feel like a foreign place. Think about how corrupt this world will be when the Church, the salt and light that you and I are called to be, is gone. When the moral thermostat of this world is turned off, the climate will become more ungodly. I say this to remind you that things will continue to get darker and darker as the end approaches, yet God has called us to His work here, while we are in the world. Listen to Christ’s prayer for us: I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. John 17:15–18. May the Word of God do its perfect work in your life, as you do the Lord’s work in this world.
