What comes to mind when you think about Heaven? Often people have misconstrued ideas about Heaven: they may think of a place where people sit on fluffy clouds and play harps all day long. Some think of Heaven as a place where they participate in their favorite hobby all the time, as if Heaven is an eternal vacation. We often think of Heaven from an earthly perspective with a flesh-fulfilling appetite. We think of things that bring us happiness now, forgetting that in Heaven, we will not have a corruptible, mortal body that desires the things of this world. To get a real picture of our celestial home we must turn to the Word of God, and when we do, we find that our new home is a place that is focused on King Jesus.
When this life is over and these mortal bodies are changed to immortal bodies, so will our desires be changed. I Corinthians 15:47-48 says, “The first man is of the earth, earthly: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthly such are they that are earthly: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.” This means that on the earth we are taught to think like earthlings, but in Heaven we will think of and desire the things of Heaven. Friend, as we will see in our study of Revelation 4, Heaven is about the one who sits on the throne. It is about our Lord, and our lives will be filled with a desire to worship Him. As we mature spiritually, our appetites and desires become more Christ-focused. May God give us a heart for our heavenly home.
