Pastor's Article 02-02-25

I love the Word of God. It contains so many precious promises from my God who is faithful to His Word. On days when I am down, it lifts me up. As King David said, he encouraged himself in the LORD (1 Samuel 30:6). Yet, the Word of God has another important aspect to it. It also brings me down when I get overly exalted in my mind. It shows me the promises of God but also the problems within my life that need to be changed. It has both the good and the bad. Like a mirror, it shows me how I look: the good, the bad and the ugly.
As recorded in our text today, it is sweet to eat but can be bitter in our bellies. It is not a compilation of compliments to deceptively make us feel better about ourselves but rather the truth to really make us better. It is not meant to hurt us but to heal us. The truth of God’s Word is described in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” This is the description of a surgeon’s scalpel, sharper than any two-edged knife or sword, and used to divide the parts of the body that are unseen to the human eye, the soul and the spirit. We often think we know the thoughts and intents of others, yet we are wrong more than we are right. Remember, friend, our all-knowing God truly does know everything, and He, with perfect vision, sees not only the problem but also the reason for and the result of our problems. With perfect surgical precision, He is able to take His Word and do what needs to be done for our healing. What a mighty God we serve!
