Go back with me in time and think about the day that Jesus entered Jerusalem. This day is referred to as Palm Sunday because the streets were lined with people who were waiting for the Lord with Palm branches in hand. They waved the branches in the air, laid them down in the streets with their cloaks and outer garments. They shouted ‘Hosanna in the highest!’ as Jesus passed by. In other words, the fame of Jesus had been spread abroad. He was a long-awaited King of the Jews, one who cared for the people, one who had the power to love and to heal. Jesus had been prophesied about, waited for, and hoped for by the Jewish people for a very long time, and here He came riding on a small donkey colt. The religious leaders did not like the people making such a big ruckus over Jesus. It was too much for them so they asked Jesus to calm the people down, to which He responded, “I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out”. (Luke 19:40) I guess we can conclude from that statement that it should be normal to worship and celebrate Jesus when He comes near to where we are. It is surreal to think that in just days the people that are ecstatic over Jesus coming into their life are going to be crying out for Him to be crucified. Jesus, who has done nothing but love the people, is going to go from being loved to being despised. That says a lot about the persuasive power of Satan in this world. To think that people who once were so wanting and welcoming Jesus could turn out to be so distant and full of disdain toward Him. What about you? Has your love of Jesus grown cold? Are you walking at a guilty distance from the one you once gladly welcomed in and asked to take control of your life? Jesus may not be the king that they had imagined but, in reality, He is so much more than a king of this world and era. He is the only King, the King of all time and eternity, the Lord of Glory. Don’t let what you see stop you from living for what only faith can give you.
