Seeing Beyond Fear
Do you like scary movies? They are not really my thing, but it is remarkable how easily a movie can frighten us—even when we know it is not real, even when it is only playing on a screen, and even when we could turn it off or walk away at any time.
That simple truth reminds us that what we see, hear, and think can stir up fear and anxiety in our lives, even when the threat is only a shadow of our imagination. To overcome the fear of what we can see, we must learn to trust what we cannot see.
Choosing Faith Over Fear
To live fearlessly and fulfill all that God has called us to do, we must look at life through eyes of faith. That means focusing on what we know to be true instead of being ruled by what we see in the moment.
This is not always easy. Our senses may tell us to turn and run, while God is calling us to stand firm and believe. In those moments, we must decide:
  • Will we rely on conventional wisdom and our instinct to flee?
  • Or will we stand by faith on God’s promises of protection and victory?
Standing on God’s Promises
Faith is put to the test when the ways of the world seem to be closing in, yet God says He is opening a door for us to walk through. Will we believe Him and wait on Him, or will we forsake faith and miss the victorious life He has called us to live?
I know what I want to do. I have decided to follow Jesus, to trust in the unseen hand of the One who promised never to leave me nor forsake me. I must say that, to this day, He has always been faithful—even when I have not.
Will you join me as we commit ourselves to a walk of faith in the Lord Jesus, one step at a time?
