Pastor's article 02-23-25

When you think about God and His love for you, do you feel a sense of amazement? I do. To think that God loves us like He does is just mind-boggling and, of course, awe-inspiring. One of my favorite passages concerning the LORD and the fact that He chose to love me is found in the Old Testament. Although it was written to Israel, it is just as applicable to me as a New Testament Christian, having been adopted into the family of God. “The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;” Deuteronomy 7: 7–9.
God does not love us because of us; He loves us because He chose to. He made a lot of promises to us, which we cling to as our hope and eternal security. One of my favorite promises is Romans 10: 13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.”  You may say, how can we trust His promise? First, we can trust His promises because His track record reveals that He does not lie and that He is not slack concerning them. Secondly, we know that we can trust His promises because, as the above-mentioned verse reminds us, He is faithful - not for a thousand years but to a thousand generations, which is a good way of saying forever. Then thirdly, we can trust His promises because that is all we have for hope: if God is not faithful, we have no hope at all.
Remember, Jesus is not a way, He is the only way! Good news is that He is sufficient to save us to the uttermost. Rest in the love and promises of God and you will find a peace that surpasses the world’s understanding.
