This last week has been a whirlwind of emotions with some of the hardest parts of life having to be dealt with. Dealing with the loss of loved ones is never easy and yet we have to experience death as it is a natural part of life. I have reminded myself throughout the last two weeks that for the Christian, death, although it hurts, doesn’t have the power to defeat us. The Bible reminds us that Jesus took the sting out of death when He overcame it with resurrection. When Jesus powerfully prevailed over death, hell and the grave, He made victory over death a promised provision for all His followers. He is the Resurrection and the Life, and we know that, although this body dissolves, we shall never die. Our bodies are mortal, and this mortal must give way to immortality. Day by day this is happening but, because our faith is in the finished work of Jesus Christ, we have eternal life and shall never die. Therefore, we can face the most difficult part of our lives with joy and hope while grieving, but not as those who have no hope. As we face the illusion of death, may we ever be reminded of the reality of everlasting life and face each day knowing that it is an opportunity to invest in the eternity in which we will live. Therefore, lift up your head, smile, and remember that God has given us the gift of abundant life! Let us go live it through the power of the Holy Spirit.
