A week ago, Tammy and I took days off to do a stay-cation, which we thought would be a great week to work around the house, rest a little, and enjoy both getting things done and relaxing a bit. As you were reading that did you notice that those things don’t really go together?
May I give you some trial-and-error wisdom? DO NOT TRY THIS! We worked ourselves crazy and had one of the most expensive vacations that we have had in a long time, with no rest. It is hard to rest when you are under pressure to get things done or to perform a certain task. Rest is important, and we are told in the Word of God that we are to rest in the Lord. How do we work for the Lord and rest in Him at the same time? We must learn to rest in what Jesus has done for us and, at the same time, to work at what we are told to do for Him. If we get that mixed up and somehow start thinking that we are working for what God has promised us instead of working from a promise, we will work and never rest. You see, what God has done for us we could not do for ourselves. That is the reason the Lord paid our sin debt. We could not afford to pay the debt that required a perfect sacrifice. We rest in His payment, and work so that others will know about it, not so we can be saved but because we are saved. We rest in our assurance, and labor so that others will know of His love.
So, it is possible to work and to rest at the same time, but not on your house, and not with a drill sergeant spouse like mine! Lol.
Therefore, rest and keep working until the whole world knows about the love of God.
