Sometimes I marvel at how many things are passed down through genetics, when I look at pictures of my dad, and then me and my brother, or pictures of my grand-boys the resemblances are remarkable. From the facial characteristics and the mannerisms it is amazing. My brother is 18 months older than me and when I talk to him and he tells me of a health problem he is having I always think well that may be me in 18 months. Much of what we face in our health comes to us based upon our genetic makeup and to be honest much of how we act is based upon how we have seen someone act.
This week I have had the privilege of being a part of Vacation Bible School and having been at Toms Creek almost 23 years I have had the privilege of seeing some who were children when I came now bringing their children to Bible School. It is almost like Deja vu, they look and often act just like their parents did. Why is that? I mean I get the looks are because of genetics but why do we act so much like our parents? Of course, you think I am silly for even asking such a question, because we all know that we act like the people who teach us how to act by what they do, what they say and even based upon what they like and dislike. Friends your children are like clay in your hands, you mold them, and you shape them by the impressions you make on them every single day. My last question: What are you turning your kids into? Please remember that no one has more power to shape the next generation than the parents of the next generation, you do not have to have the government’s permission to raise your children, God commanded you to do just that. “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Eph 6:4
