Have you ever committed your children to the Lord? There is a passage in the Bible that tells us how Hannah dedicated her child Samuel to God. Hannah could not get pregnant and desperately wanted a child, so she prayed and committed to the Lord that if He would open her womb and give her a child, she would in turn give the child back to Him. And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. I Samuel 1:11
As the story goes, The Lord gave her a child and according to her vow she gave the child back to Him. This passage reminds us of how hard it can be to dedicate a child to the Lord. She took the child as soon as he was weaned and gave Him to the priest to raise as a servant of the Lord. Can you imagine taking a child you wanted so badly and simply handing him off to be raised for the service of the Lord. This is a reminder that our children are just on loan to us, and that they should be raised to bring honor to Him. God can do more in the life of your child than you can, and our children need to know that they have been entrusted to God. To dedicate your child to the Lord is a commitment on your part to raise your children to know Jesus. This requires you being dedicated to parenting your children according to the principles and precepts of the Bible. You cannot give your Childs’ heart to the Lord, but you can give them a lifestyle that helps them be receptive to giving their heart to Jesus. May we parent with a goal of His will being done on earth as it is in Heaven.
