I would like for you to try and imagine living in a perfect world with no sickness, no sin, no bickering with one another, I am talking about a perfect utopia. I know that is a hard thought considering that from the moment of your birth you have had pain, suffering and sorrow to some extent. That was not the case with Adam and Eve, they had a perfect start, in a perfect place, walking daily with God and fellowshipping with Him in perfect harmony, until it wasn’t. We find in Genesis three what is referred to as the fall of man, when Eve and Adam fell into sin, being beguiled by Satan. We live in a sin sick world, there is no denying that but that is all we have never known, in the case with Adam and Eve they were able to see the dramatic change that took place when sin entered the world. They thought that they had no enemies and were gullible and trusting, which led to their sinful fall.
Satan was able to persuade them to do the one thing that was wrong for them to do, to eat of the forbidden fruit. In an instant there was knowledge of wrong, and a guilty, dirty feeling flooded into their life, their innocents had been stripped away and they were separated from a right relationship with God. Now it didn’t matter where they were geographically, spiritually they were in a bad place. They needed hope and that hope had to come from the God in whom they had sinned against. The very purpose of their creation was at risk, they could not fellowship with the one who had created them to fellowship with Him. God had a plan for redemption before they even needed redeeming and now, He would reveal it. It would be a plan that required the woman giving birth to a Savior who would defeat Satan by crushing His head. It is the first Christmas promise from a God who keeps His promises. In the very beginning the first Christmas Gift of God’s grace was foretold when God said to Satan. “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” Ge 3:15 When we get to the New Testament, we see this prophesy being fulfilled in the virgin birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He was born as the second Adam to overcome sin and offer us salvation. Jesus is the only hope of humanity.
